We’ve been hard at work on a brand new project, and now it’s official: we’ll be debuting a brand new play, A Series Of Grisly Murders At Lonsdale’s Record Shop, at the 2014 Edmonton International Fringe Festival! We’ll be at Venue #22 (Filthy McNasty’s on Whyte), and there will be eight shows over the course of the Festival. Showtimes coming soon!
First thing’s first: we’ve got some rad new material that not many of you have heard, and your next chance to hear it will be THIS SUNDAY at the WUNDERBAR at 9PM. Five bucks gets you in, the bill is full of hilarious weirdness and you’ll be helping Folk Lordz do what they do, so yeah. CHECK IT.
Secondly, HOLY CRAP YOU GUYS WE GET TO PLAY ON A STREETCAR ON A BRIDGE BECAUSE APPARENTLY THE UNIVERSE DOESN’T SUCK! On Saturday, August 2nd, you can join us for a ride across the High Level at sunset, and a bunch of comedians will make you laugh and then we’ll make you laugh and also dance! I don’t wanna throw around the phrase “once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” but… maybe buy some tickets? It’s gonna sell out SO FAST.
This Sunday, Success 5000 is HEADLINING at the Empress Comedy Night, 8:30pm at the Empress Pub! We’ve got some old favourites and some brand new, never-before-heard material… it’s gonna be amazing.
Also, on Monday, we’ll be performing as part of a brand new sketch group called the Debutantes! Catch usat Doctor Jokes, 8:30pm at the Wunderbar. The group contains a few familiar faces from Success 5000′s past live shows and sketches, and this will be our first performance ever. Seriously, don’t miss this.
So there’s a new show in town called Massive Mondays, and we’re playing the one that happens at 8:30 this coming Monday, June 30th, at Woody’s on Jasper. It’s been pointed out several times in public forums that this show is hosted by two exceptionally talented lady comics and it takes place at a gay bar, and all of that is FANTASTIC NEWS for the Edmonton comedy scene, which is predominantly white, straight, male, and just generally a little conservative. In fact, I feel bad pointing all this out again, because it makes it sound like the show can’t stand on its own merits as an incredibly funny comedy experience, WHICH IT TOTALLY CAN. It’s just that in a city where there’s so much amazing stuff going on, sometimes new amazing stuff has a hard time finding an audience, and this show really really needs an audience so it can continue to be a thing. SO YEAH. That’s what makes this show important and different and extra-rad. But it’s still really damn funny and you should totally come.
Our second official, professional, actually-legit MUSIC VIDEO is for our song Feelings, off of our album Coffee Table, and it features SO MANY EDMONTON CELEBRITIES. Seriously, see if you can spot them all! Thanks to Tom Robinson, Dylan Howard, and the dozens of other people who made this thing happen – you guys are the best!
Tonight, two of our short films will be featured as part of NextFest at the Roxy Theatre! The event starts at 7pm, and it’s always best to show up early.
ALSO: on Thursday, we’re premiering a BRAND NEW MUSIC VIDEO at the Underdog Comedy Show, 9pm at the Black Dog on Whyte! HOW COOL IS THAT??
June is shaping up to be an exciting month: so far, we’re part of a film festival and an improv festival, and that’s just the stuff we can tell you about! “Breakfast Sorcerer” and “En Francais” will both be screening at the NextFest Film Festival at 7pm on Monday, June 9th at the Roxy Theatre. Later in the month, we’ll be helping Rapid Fire Theatre kick off their annual Improvaganza Festival on Wednesday June 18 at 7:30pm in the Citadel Theatre. Stay tuned for more shows being announced soon!
